Yes you can, as long as it meets a few technical requirements:
It needs to be compatible with our network and have been purchased in the UK.
It must not cause issues for other users or the wider network.
If your router meets these requirements, you’re good to go.
Using your own router instead of the eero
If you choose to use your own compatible router, you do not need to connect or use the eero router at any stage of your service.
Your broadband can be activated, connected, and billed using your own router as long as it is correctly configured.
To work on our network, your router must have:
DHCP enabled (WAN/Internet connection type set to DHCP)
VLAN ID/tag set to 911
Why we’d prefer for you to use our router
Our eero router comes ready to go, pre-configured, tested, and secure — but it is not required if you prefer to use your own compatible router. Using it helps us make sure your broadband is fast, stable, and that our team can help you quickly if something goes wrong.
If you choose to use your own router, that’s okay, but support may be a little trickier (we’ll explain why below).
What support you can expect from us
We’ll help with general connectivity issues. Our team may ask you to connect the eero router for troubleshooting, but this is optional and only used for diagnostics — not required for service activation or normal use. This helps us pinpoint the issue quickly.
We might ask for some info about your router (model, firmware version) if we need to investigate.
If your router is causing network problems, we may advise you to switch back to the eero router, or try using a different compatible router if available.
Tips and troubleshooting
Keep the eero router handy, just in case we need to test it for support.
Check your router settings match our requirements:
WAN / Connection type should be set to DHCP
VLAN ID/tag should be set to 911
You do not need to keep the eero connected for your service to work if you are using your own router.
At the end of your time with us
If you’re using your own router, you don’t need to return it, it’s yours.
Whether you’ve been using the eero router we sent to you or not, we’ll ask you to send it back when you leave or switch providers.
