If you’re switching to giffgaff from another network, and you want to keep your mobile number, you’ll need to ask your old network for a PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) if you want to keep your number, or a STAC (Service Termination Authorisation Code) if you want a new number with us.

PAC: You can get your PAC by texting PAC to 65075 from the number you want to keep and following the simple steps.

STAC: You can get your STAC by texting STAC to 75075, from the number you don’t want to keep and following the simple steps.

You'll get your PAC or your STAC within 60 seconds. Or you can contact your current provider.

Already switched to giffgaff or left your previous network provider and decided to keep your previous number?
You can still request a PAC code by contacting your previous network provider.

You have up to 30 days from when you left your previous network provider to request your PAC. You have an additional 30 days to provide us with your PAC code.

How do I use my PAC code?

It’s super easy to bring your number over. You just need a PAC code from your old UK network:

  1. Text “PAC” to 65075 from your old UK SIM (not your giffgaff one)

  2. Activate your giffgaff SIM card on our activation page (you'll get a temporary number for the time being)

  3. Once your SIM is active, pop over to our number transfer page to enter your PAC

  4. When you enter your PAC, you'll be asked to pick a number transfer day. That day, you'll have intermittent service from your old provider and giffgaff up until 9pm

  5. Success. You've now moved your number over to giffgaff

If you’re struggling to transfer your number, please contact one of our agents who will be happy to help.

How long does it take to switch?

Once you've submitted your request to switch your mobile number to giffgaff, we'll aim to have you moved over on the day you requested for your number to be switched over. When you submit a transfer request at the weekend or on a bank holiday it is processed the following working day and transferred the next working day.

Here's a breakdown of the earliest day a number can be transferred depending on the day a request has been made:

  • Requests made between 17:01 on Friday and 17:00 on Monday will transfer on Tuesday

  • Requests made between 17:01 on Monday and 17:00 on Tuesday will transfer on Wednesday

  • Requests made between 17:01 on Tuesday and 17:00 on Wednesday will transfer on Thursday

  • Requests made between 17:01 on Wednesday and 17:00 on Thursday will transfer on Friday

  • Requests made between 17:01 on Thursday and 17:00 on Friday will transfer on Monday

Can I switch my number to giffgaff at any time?

Yes you can. Just provide us with the number you want to switch and a valid PAC code.

What else do I need to do to switch to giffgaff?

The first thing to do is make sure your giffgaff SIM is activated. You can do this by popping your new giffgaff SIM into your handset and allowing it to connect to the network.

If you’re using an eSIM, you can do the following depending on which handset you are using to double-check that your eSIM is active:

For iOS devices, follow these steps:

  1. First things first, head over to Settings then choose Mobile Data

  2. Here, you’ll see your eSIM listed under SIMs

  3. Tap on your eSIM and double-check that the Turn On This Line option is turned on

  4. Then, you’ll be all good to go

For Android devices, follow these steps:

  1. Start off by going to Settings then pick SIM cards & mobile networks

  2. Next, scroll down and choose Manage eSIM

  3. Here, you’ll find your activated eSIM. Don’t forget to double-check that it’s turned on

You’ll be able to use your giffgaff SIM immediately or if you want, wait until your original number is switched over.

To switch over to giffgaff, you’ll need to be in the UK on the day you’ve requested your transfer to take place.

What happens when requesting to switch to giffgaff?

On the day of the switch, we’ll update your temporary giffgaff number to the number you’d like to keep. Until the switch takes place, you can continue to use your new giffgaff SIM with your temporary number or your SIM from your original network.

You’ll lose service on your original network on the day the switch takes place. The number you wanted to keep will then be live on the giffgaff network. If you haven’t already, place your giffgaff SIM into your handset, and you’re ready to go.

Switching usually happens by 5pm on the day you requested your transfer but in some cases, it can take up to 9pm. Loss of service is minimal, but if you do lose service, you should be back up and running by 9pm.

What happens if it takes longer to switch?

We're committed to making sure you have the smoothest possible experience when switching from the moment you request your PAC/STAC code or Switching Information until the successful completion of your switch.

If we can't switch you on the day we told you we would, you'll be entitled to compensation. You don't need to do anything.

For issues with porting out, payment will be made back to your saved card. For issues with porting in, we will apply credit to your account.
