At giffgaff, we want you to stay connected without any worries. So, if your data drops to 500 MBs or below in your current plan, you can easily start a new plan early and stay connected. Or you can use 'pay as you go' credit (at a rate of 10p/MB).

How can I start a new plan early if I run out of data?

Easy, once your data drops to 500 MBs, you can start a new plan early through the app or on your dashboard, the option to do this will appear below your next plan.

Start a new plan on your dashboard

  1. Log into your account and pop over to your dashboard

  2. Under your next 'recurring' or 'queued' plan, you will see 'Start next plan now', click that

  3. Follow the instructions to complete the journey

Start a new plan on the app

  1. On your giffgaff app, you will have the option to start a new plan early on the 'Home' screen under 'My plan'

  2. Also, click on 'Help' at the bottom

  3. Navigate to 'Start your next plan early' for more info on this

You can only start a new plan early if you’re on an 18-month contract or if your current plan is set to auto-renew.

When you purchase a plan early, it erases your current plan and you will lose all remaining allowances, so we ask you to confirm you are really sure you want to start a new plan right now.

Note: When you start a new plan early, the payment for the new plan is taken at this point. Also:

  • You can start a recurring or queued plan up to 9pm on the day of expiry of your active plan

  • You can queue a plan up to 10pm if you complete it online

  • You can queue a plan if you do it via the 43430 top up line but you must do it before 9pm.

  • Queued and recurring plans do not automatically start early if the current plan runs out of data. You need to manually start the next plan early to make sure you can still get access to our services and not dip into your existing credit.

FAQs

What if I run out of data while roaming in the EU?

Our plans have a fair use roaming limit, and every plan is capped at 5 GB of EU data. If you run out of your EU data in your plan while roaming in the EU in one of giffgaffs selected destinations, the good news is that you can start a new plan early.

Once the EU data in your plan drops to 500 MBs or less, just follow the steps above to start a new plan early - easy peasy.

How do I avoid this happening again?

If you’ve run out before the month is up, you may want to try a plan with more data. Have a look at your usage statement under, “what’s the best plan for you” for our recommendation.
