When you head abroad, your phone can connect to local networks, so you can keep using your giffgaff SIM for calls, texts and data. This is known as roaming.
We want to make it easy for you to stay connected while you’re away. That’s why you can use your plan and an allowance of EU roaming data when travelling in the EU and selected destinations. If you’re heading further afield, check out the Rest of the world section below.

When you arrive in a new country, you'll get a text about the roaming charges
You can still roam like at home (RLAH) when visiting in the EU
Some countries require you to have credit in your account to use roaming services
You can switch on your credit spend cap to stay in control of your spending when roaming
Check your balance on your dashboard, giffgaff app, or by calling 43430 and selecting option 2. Your usage statement will show your mobile charges from roaming
Keep in mind if checking your voicemail abroad, foreign calls may incur roaming charges.
To call a UK number while abroad, add the international dialling code: Strip off the 0 at the start and add +44 instead (or 00 44)
RLAH is for members who spend most of their time in the UK. So if your travels are over an extended period, or you’ve had several trips lately, you’ll no longer be eligible.
There's also travel data add-ons available to help you stay online without the hassle of finding WiFi. You can buy travel data for a range of destinations, so you’re covered when you need it.
If you've lost or had your mobile or SIM stolen abroad, read our guide on how to report this to us.
EU and selected destinations
Here's what you need to know about your roaming data in the EU and selected destinations. If your plan has:
MORE than 5GB data | LESS than 5GB of data |
Your data will be capped at 5 GB of EU data. That means you can use up to 5GB of EU data while roaming in the EU and selected destinations. | When you’re roaming in the EU and selected destinations, you can use any data you’ve got left in your plan. For example, if your plan includes 2GB of UK data, you’ll be able to use up to 2GB while roaming in those countries. |

What if I use up my EU data?
You can start a new plan early to get another EU allowance. You can kick start a new plan early to get another 5GB of EU data (If the plan you use has less than 5GB of data and you run out of data, you can start a new plan early to get that amount of data again). Alternatively you can apply a travel data add-on.
What if I run out of EU data and don't start a new plan?
Any data usage will then be charged from your credit (if you have credit on your account) at 10p per MB. For information about the fair use limit, read our roaming in the EU and selected destinations terms and conditions.
Rest of the world
Outside of those countries, you’ll need to add some credit to make calls, send texts and receive data. Have a look at our roaming page for roaming costs in each country.
