Ordering a SIM in the UK and Abroad

How to order a SIM from the UK and outside of the UK. Also: adapt a SIM size to fit your phone, how long its take to receive your new SIM and what is a triple-SIM and if it will fit in your phone.

Looking to get a new giffgaff SIM card? Whether you're ordering within the UK or ordering a SIM from abroad, this guide will walk you through the process.

How do I get a new SIM?

You can easily order a free Giffgaff SIM online via the SIM order page. Alternatively, you can purchase a new giffgaff SIM at most local shops.

How long does it take for the SIM to arrive?

Typically, your giffgaff SIM should arrive within:


UK

2 business days (or next business day if ordered before 5.00pm)

Europe

3-5 business days

Rest of world

5+ business days

If you have been waiting more than 7 days for the arrival of a SIM then please proceed to contact an agent. It is possible the SIM has been lost in transit and will require re-ordering.

Alternatively, if your SIM hasn't arrived by post, you can pop into any local supermarket in the UK and pick up a new giffgaff SIM today.

If you've lost/had your SIM stolen then please head to the replacement SIM page under Help to bar your SIM and request a replacement. If it is ordered prior to 1pm, typically it'll arrive the following working day. The replacement SIM will arrive in an envelope saying "Oops, don't worry, we'll get you back on track".

Can I order a SIM from outside the UK?

Absolutely, you can order a free SIM but at the moment, we can only send them to:

  • Australia

  • Japan

  • Spain

The delivery time will vary depending on the country of shipping, but expect anywhere between 3 to 5 working days within Europe and from 5 working days for the rest of the world.

FAQs

What if I need a different size SIM to fit my new phone?

Our triple SIMs fit all modern phones.

If you have an existing giffgaff SIM in your phone which needs to be smaller to fit your phone, you may be able to pop the smaller SIM out straight away.

If you've got a new phone and need a different sized SIM (a bigger SIM) you can order a free one online or purchase one from a shop. Any giffgaff SIM will do.

Then, just log in to your existing account and swap your number over to the new SIM. It's super simple and won't take long at all.

You can swap your number over any time between 4.30am-9.30pm:

  1. If you have an unactivated giffgaff SIM at hand and you are still able to receive either an SMS or an email to the email address registered on your account, log in and pop over to activate your SIM. You'll be asked if you want to swap your current giffgaff number to the new SIM. Just follow the steps. There's no need to buy credit or another plan

  2. If you cannot receive an SMS to your number and you don't have independent access to your registered email address, you will not be able to receive the 2-step verification code. It will therefore not be possible to activate a standard SIM. In this case you'll need to order a replacement SIM

What is a triple-SIM and is it useful?

A triple-SIM is a 3-in-1 SIM that fits standard, micro, and nano slots, so it works with any phone.
