A plan (formerly known as a goodybag) is packed full of data and comes with unlimited minutes and texts. Plans last for 1 calendar month and can be used while you're in the UK, the EU and selected countries.

If your plan expires and not set to recur, or if you run out of data before the plan's expiry date, you'll then be charged out of your credit balance at the standard PAYG rate. Alternatively, once you have less than 500 MB of data remaining, you can start your next plan early.

You can check the remaining minutes in your plan and expiry date via My giffgaff in the giffgaff mobile app or by dialling 43430 then option 2.

Plans cover most things you might need to use your phone for but there are a few little extras that fall outside your plan. For these extras you’ll need to buy credit.

FAQs

How do I buy a plan?

It's very easy to buy a plan and it can be done online or from your giffgaff phone, just follow these steps:

From your mobile: to buy one of our plans using existing credit or a voucher

  • Call 43430 for free and listen to the opening message.
Note: Plans available through 43430 are limited to standard PAYG plans. If you’re using an 18-month contract plan, the same options may not be available through this service.

  • Press 2 to buy a plan using your existing credit, a voucher or a combination of both

Note: You won't be able to buy a plan if you have recur set up, you can learn how to switch this off here.

Online: to buy any plan using a payment card, paypal, existing credit or a voucher, just pick the plan from the Buy a plan section.

Only one payment method can be used per online transaction. If you want to use a voucher together with another payment method, first redeem the voucher as credit, then buy your plan using your updated credit balance.

Note: You won't be able to use your credit to buy a plan if:

  • You do not have enough credit to pay for the plan you've selected.

  • You set your plan to recur.

How do I start a new plan early?

You can buy a new plan early through the app or on your dashboard once you have less than 500MB left in your current plan. Or you can use pay as you go credit to stay connected.

If you've run out before the month is up, you may want to try a plan with more data.

There are different ways to buy a plan early, depending on the result you want to achieve:

  • You want your plan to be renewed automatically every month. You will need to set your plan to auto renew.

  • You want to pre-purchase your next plan so it starts when your current plan expires. You will need a queued plan.

  • You don't have any data or minutes left in your current plan and you want to buy a new one right now. You can buy a plan and start it early.

When you purchase or start a plan early, it erases your current plan and you will lose all remaining allowances, so we ask you to confirm you are really sure you want to start a new plan right now.

Note:

  • You can start a recurring or queued plan up to 9pm on the day of expiry of your active plan

  • You can queue a plan up to 10pm if you complete it online

  • You can queue a plan if you do it via the 43430 top up line but you must do it before 9pm.

  • Queued and recurring plans do not automatically start early if the current plan runs out of data. You need to manually start the next plan early to make sure you can still get access to our services and not dip into your existing credit.

When will my plan expire?

Your plan lasts for one calendar month from the day it becomes active. It expires at 23:59 on the day before the same date in the following month. For example, a plan started on 11 May expires at 23:59 on 10 June.

If your plan is set to auto renew, payment for your next plan will usually be taken shortly after 9pm on the day your current plan expires.

How do I buy a plan with a voucher?

There's two easy ways which you can buy and redeem a voucher:

Online

Just pop over to our voucher page to buy a plan with a voucher

Phone

Alternatively, you can dial 43430 and choose option 2

You should take care to avoid redeeming credit from a voucher if the intention is to buy a plan from the credit. The reasons are:

  • If that doesn't happen, it is easy to forget to buy the plan from the credit

  • It's easier to buy the plan safely, using one of the methods above

  • If your phone has data switched on and you have no remaining plan data, your phone is likely to instantly use some of that credit to do outstanding tasks such as checking for updates and downloading emails. That will immediately use up a penny or two of your new credit, possibly leaving you with an insufficient balance to buy the intended plan

What numbers are included in a plan?

Most of them are included however some exceptions would be premium numbers and international numbers. You can see a full list on our pricing page.
