Switching to an eSIM with giffgaff

How to get and switch to an eSIM on giffgaff.

Whether you're new to giffgaff or already with us, it's really simple to swap your SIM for an eSIM. Here's how to switch your SIM over:

New to giffgaff

  1. Check if your phone works with eSIM

  2. Next, download the giffgaff app and register for an account or log in

  3. On the app dashboard, toggle to the eSIM option then go to Choose your plan

  4. After choosing and purchasing a plan, you’ll be able to get an eSIM on giffgaff

Note: If you're joining giffgaff from a new network and would like to bring your number over, you can do this once you’ve got an eSIM.

Already a giffgaff member

  1. Check if your phone works with eSIM

  2. Then, on the giffgaff app (you will need to download the app in order to migrate over to an eSIM), head to Account > SIM > Replace my SIM > Switch to a new eSIM

  3. Follow the steps there and you'll be up and running with an eSIM in no time

When switching from a physical SIM or an existing eSIM to a new eSIM, here are a few handy tips to remember:

  • Check that you’re on the latest version of the giffgaff app

  • eSIM switching is available from 4:30am to 9:30pm

  • It can take up to 1 hour after activating your eSIM to get signal but can go up to 24 hours at busy times

    • Still no signal after an hour? Give your phone a quick restart or toggle flight mode on and off

  • Avoid switching to a eSIM when traveling

  • Once your new eSIM is active, your old SIM (physical or eSIM) will stop working. Remove it or delete it to avoid any confusion.

There's no differences in pricing between a plan on a physical SIM and a plan on an eSIM.
