Will my personal alarm or telecare device work with giffgaff broadband?

Telecare services don't generally work with giffgaff broadband.

What’s a telecare device?

Telecare devices help people live independently and get help quickly if something goes wrong. You might know yours as a personal alarm, pendant alarm, fall detector or lifeline unit. Most work by calling a monitoring centre when a button is pressed, or a sensor is triggered.

Will my telecare device work with giffgaff broadband?

giffgaff broadband doesn’t include a landline or voice service. We do full fibre broadband and nothing else. So if your telecare device works through a phone line, it won’t work once you switch to us.

Some devices plug into a phone socket. Others send alerts over a broadband or digital voice connection. Both need a phone line, so neither will work with giffgaff broadband.

Devices with their own mobile SIM are different. They don’t need a landline or broadband, so switching won’t affect them.

What to do before you switch

If you or someone you live with uses a telecare device:

Speak to whoever provides your alarm. They’ll know whether it can be replaced or set up differently, and whether a mobile-SIM version is an option.

Not sure who provides it? Your local council’s adult social care team can usually point you in the right direction. Don’t order giffgaff broadband until your telecare provider confirms your device will work.

If your device uses your broadband, it’ll stop working in a power cut. Devices with their own SIM and battery keep working.
